SILK PAINTING BASICS

This class is for the beginning silk painter.. This course will cover the following techniques including; mono-printing, stenciling, and stamping using your own cut stamps and stencils. We will also review and use wet on wet, free flow, stop flow, salting, thickened dyes, and resist methods. Our goal in this class will be to paint and design a variety of silk scarves using all of the above techniques. (Includes some materials)

PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS FOR ARTISTS

Learn how to turn Photoshop Elements into a reliable tool in your arsenal for the creative process before you even pick up a brush or pastel. Have an idea for a painting from one (or more) of your photos? Use PSE 8 to crop or straighten a photo, combine photos or make selections from several photos to test out new concepts, generate a value study, use filters and distortion for different effects, and produce and manipulate multiple layers of your image. Once you understand how PSE 8 operates, there will be no limit to the creative possibilities at your fingertips. Bring your Windows or Mac laptop with Photoshop Elements 8 already installed and find out why this program has been such a hit with artists and digital photographers.

MONOTYPE & LINOLEUM WORKSHOP |
Printmaking is a centuries old technique for creating art and illustrations in multiple orignals. In this 4 hour workshop, we will be covering monotype and linoleum techniques. Monotype is a very exciting and spontaneous technique, similar in some ways to painting. Linoleum is suitable to create cards designs. MIXED MEDIA WITH OIL PASTEL WORKSHOP |
This four hour workshop really "pushes the envelope" with what you can do with oil pastel and its friends. First we will make an oil pastel "mixed media sampler" of 15 different combinations using oil pastel with ink, watercolor, soft pastel, acrylic, collage, colored pencil, rubberstamps and charcoal. See what glorious effects you can get! Then use those effects to make an artwork based on a masterwork by Georgia O'Keefe. . All materials included.

GET IT WHILE IT'S HOT: THE ART OF ENCAUSTIC PAINTING

Explore the magical world of encaustic painting and discover a lost art that has intrigued painter for over 2000 years. Encaustic means "to heat or to burn" so heat is used at every level. During this four hour workshop you will learn the history of encaustic, safety practices, use of equipment and basic techniques including photo transfer, collage, and incising. MAKING THE MOST OF TRANSFERS: A MIXED MEDIA EVENT

|
This FULL DAY workshop will take you through all the basics of creating acrylic transfers, several techniques for faux transfers, and much, much more. Learn how to build up numerous layers of image, utilize skin transfers for unique collage elements, and push your mixed media applications to the limit! You won't want to miss this opportunity!
Students will need only to bring several gessoed supports (stretched canvas or canvas boards or 140 # watercolor paper) to work on. All other materials and acrylic products will be provided by the instructor. If you wish to transfer your own personal images, please bring black & white or color toner-based images printed on either a laser printer or a toner-copy machine. Remember to reverse the image if there are words. Ink Jet copies will not work for this class.
There will be a break for lunchl.

MIXED MEDIA SCULPTURE GOES GREEN! & COMMUNITY DANCE
|
Mixed Media Sculpture Goes Green: Imagine the endless possibilities of creating unique sculpture through combining a variety of recycled and found objects. You learn about constructing sculpture, the principles of 3-D design and the environment while creating your very own one-of-a-kind sculptures!
Community Dance (At Eveoke Dance Theatre-2811-A University Ave, San Diego, CA 92104): The world can also be discovered anew through dance! Work with teaching artists from Eveoke Dance Theatre to find and express your voice through creative movement. This summer students will be exploring different aspects of community and how we can change or community for the better.On Wednesday, students will take a field trip to the beach with Eveoke Dance theatre transportation. Students will return at 4pm on that Wednesday! Eveoke always finds the positive and the inspiring through true community-building. A student culminating performance will be held on Friday, August 2nd at 2pm. You will leave the week with excitement and hope about what you can contribute to our community! (Students will be accompanied by an adult to the dance theatre and should be picked up at their location.)
